Grangetown 0 V 7 Pentyrch Rangers

It was difficult to predict how the game against Grangetown would turn out. The previous week they lost out 2 - 0 in a close game with Marlboro Black.

From the opening the possession and territory were heavily weighed in Pentyrch’s favour, but the team were struggling to get any rhythm into their game.  On 7 minutes Grangetown launched a counter attack that pierced the defence and put their striker through on goal. But George saved a certain goal with a great block. In the scramble for the ball Grangetown got off another clean strike. This time it was Nick who put his body on the line to block another goal-bound shot.

For the next 15 minutes Pentyrch continued to dominate. However, with the team struggling to keep the ball on the ground as Grangetown were pressured into long-ball clearances, the pass-completion rate was well below  normal. But on the 22nd minute a throw-in from Tom E to Ethan saw him slide it first-time through to Leigh. Turning his defender, Leigh span around and let fly a fierce left foot shot to open the scoring.

On the 38th minute, with Grangetown continuing their dogged resistance, Nick claimed the ball in a tackle and released Leigh down the right. Leigh drove at the Grangetown defence before cutting inside to score another superb goal.

For the first five minutes of the second half Grangetown tried hard to get back in the game. But on the 46th minute, Harry claimed the ball in midfield and, as the space opened up in front of him, he drove at the heart of the Grangetown defence before delivering a slide rule pass for Callum to run on to and score.

Two minutes later and Leigh delivers a corner into the box. A Grangetown defender got his head to the ball but could only direct it downwards; the ball falls to Liam who blasts it into the roof of the net.

With Pentyrch finding some real rhythm, it is Leigh who now turns provider. On 54 minutes, a measured pass releases Sam, who then cuts in from the left and drives the ball home for Pentyrch’s fifth goal.

Five minutes later and it is Lucas’ turn to deliver a perfectly weighted ball through for Sam to claim his second.

The seventh and final goal came from a driven corner by Callum that caused

chaos in the Grangetown box, bouncing first off one defender before being deflected into the back of the net by another.

Today's result was also the second clean sheet of the season with the back four doing an excellent job. Rumour has it Doug has a crystal ball in his back pocket. Any Grangetown balls into the box and he was claiming them - he seemed to know where they were being directed even before the pass provider knew where he had planned to play them.
