Pentyrch Rangers 3 V 0 Marlboro Black, 8 March 2014

.
Pentyrch Rangers 3 – 0 Marlboro Black

For the first five minutes both teams probed each other's defences as they settled into the game. But, in a classic case of turning defence into attack, a timely intervention by George led to the first goal. He broke quickly out of his area to snuff out a Marlboro attack, directing a long ball to Leigh on the left. Finding himself with space Leigh cuts inside and with a looping shot scores the first goal.  Pentyrch 1– 0 Marlboro Black.
Having stunned Marlborough with an early goal the next 10 minutes provide an evenly balanced match as both times vie for dominance. On 14 minutes Leigh wins a corner for Pentyrch. Callum sends the ball into the box. Marlboro turn it behind for another corner. Again Callum takes the corner. But this time Marlboro clear. On 18 minutes a great ball down the left by Nick but a Marlboro defender just gets to it before Sam to clear. Will gathers the ball and sends the ball back into the Marlboro penalty box but again Marlboro clear their lines.
Marlboro now begin to get hold of the game to create a number of goal scoring opportunities. On 19 minutes Joel gets in a testing shot on the  Pentyrch goal, but George pulls off a good save to deny Marlboro an equaliser. A minute later and quick, precise Marlboro passing finds  Owen on the left. He plays a one-two but his shot is just wide.
It's beginning to look just a matter of time before Marlboro get their equaliser as they continue to press.  On 25 minutes Marlborough win another corner. Owen sends the ball into the box but the header from Ollie is deflected by a Pentyrch defender for yet another Marlboro corner.  Pentyrch clear their lines.
For the remainder of the half Marlboro press forward looking for the equaliser but the Pentyrch defence hold firm. The back four of Nick, Harrison, Doug and Tyrone, with Liam and Lucas in front of them have done an excellent job in stifling the Marlboro attacks with some last ditch defending.

Half time Pentyrch Rangers 1 – 0 Marlboro Black

Shortly after the restart a goal kick from George finds Leigh. In what was almost a mirror image of his first half strike, Leigh again cuts inside and shoots.  But this time the Marlborough goalie saves.  Two minutes later and more Pentyrch pressure on the Marlboro goal brings out another fine save from their goalie, Morgan, to turn behind for a corner a shot from Callum.
On 55 minutes Matt wins a corner for Pentyrch. Leigh crosses. A good ball into the box but Marlboro clear.  Five minutes later and Tom A plays the ball down the right for Callum who ships it on to Sam who wins an attacking touch for Pentyrch. Receiving the ball from the throw-in, Tom A cuts inside, but his looping shot across the face of goal is just over the bar.
The game is developing into something of a stale mate as Pentyrch nervously defend their one goal lead and Marlboro, while pressing, know that Pentyrch can catch them on the break, especially as they begin to tire.
On 65 minutes a Marlboro Corner is cleared by Sam working hard back in defence.  His ball releases Callum on the right wing. But Marlboro's Dana is quickly across to concede a touch. From the throw-in Nat zips a quick pass to Harry but his shot is just over.
With ten minutes to go Tyrone puts in a great tackle to win the ball deep in the Pentyrch half. In what was a classic counter attack, Tyrone launches an inch perfect pass down the line to Leigh who cuts inside and unleashes a stunning strike to give the Marlboro goalie no chance. Pentyrch 2 – 0 Marlboro Black.
Keeping their focus, Marlboro fight back and win a free kick just inside the Pentyrch half with  eight minutes to go.  Eager to get back in the game, the kick is over hit and the ball goes straight out of play.
Two minutes later and Pentyrch are awarded a free kick some 25 yards out.  Leigh takes sight on goal and with a superb strike finds the top left hand corner to claim his hat-trick and put the game beyond doubt.  Pentyrch 3 – 0  Marlboro Black.
It is the 79th minute and Sam uses his pace to break the Marlboro defensive line. But as he is bearing down on goal Sam is brought down on the edge of the penalty area. Leigh takes the free kick but this time his shot is just over.

Full time: Pentyrch 3 – 0 Marlboro Black.
